Travel for wisdom.............................. |
Germany 2011-2012
I have just returned from a adventurous vacation in Germany. I got to visit the Harz Mountains and Hanover. The snow covered tops of Harz Mountains make a perfect New Year celebration. The town of Braunlage, the heart of my voyage, rests within the Harz Mountains. As a popular ski destination (not for the extreme professionals), it is also famous for its health resorts (Therme, as they call them). Although there was a wet mix of participation this winter in Braunlage, up in the Mountains there was a plentiful amount of soft snow. At the top, there is a hotel and restaurant where you can go for some steaming Glühwein before you make your way back down. Apart from skiing, enthusiasts and kids have the ability to sled down or take a nice athletic stroll to the bottom.
The town of Braunlage itself is not very big, but has everything you would need from an ice skating ring to dozens of delicious restaurants to shoppes for those that need to stock up on clothes, food or souvenirs. They also have an outside eatery/cafe that sells hot Glühwein and German sausages, with lively music, standing tables, and fire patio heaters to keep you warm.
Stay tuned for more details on the adventure!!

Word of advice: whenever and wherever you are traveling, never forget to take a good read. It could be a book or a magazine, or anything your heart desires, just make sure to fill the the difficult inevitabilites of traveling (like waiting) with something pleasurable to do.

I love travel, probably more than anything else in the world (as an activity). Of course I am always faced with the challenges of finance and planning but those are minor formalities. Many are under the impression that travel should be put aside as a leisure activity that requires tons of money; alas, it is not. Yes, travel does involve leisure but it is not exclusively a leisure activity. One of its best attributes is just how much you can learn, in fact, travel is an investment. You meet new people, you learn new things, you see new places - it may even be a better investment than college (and they practically cost the same). Although it may be tedious, it is always worth while to search for good deals. Websites like cheapcaribbean.com or travelzoo.com can help you get started. Another good tip is to read as much about the place you want to go to as you can, you can learn a lot from what others have to say. There are usually tips about what areas to stay in, where to eat, what to see; that way you can plan your full itinerary from home. I have always heard people say that true travelers should plan too much, but I disagree. You should have a general plan of what you want to do on a daily basis (tripit.com is awesome for that), but dont be a maniac that can only stick to what is planned. Go with the flow, if you find something better to do when you get there then go for it! Be spontaneous, with a back up plan.
